Northern Nevada HOG Chapter welcomes you to the North Meets South Event.

Six Road Captain guided rides have been planned for Friday and Saturday. The routes and maps will be provided if you prefer to do these rides on your own. There are also three self-guided rides for which routes and maps will be provided. All guided rides will include a lunch stop.

The following are some short descriptions of the rides so you can start planning your Reno North Meets South Adventure.

Friday

Donner Lake Ride, KSU @ 0830 — Approximately 100 miles

Go west from Reno up to the mountain town of Truckee. Then a little further is a beautiful, clear water lake where the Donner Party had their struggles in the winter of 1846-1847


Antelope Lake Loop, KSU @ 0845 — Approximately 175 miles

This ride takes you north to a pretty lake nestled in the mountains with some nice mountain twisty roads and rural scenery. This ride has some moderate mountain roads and rural backroads.


Sierra Valley Loop, KSU @ 0900 — Approximately 140 miles

This easy loop will take you around the pastoral Sierra Valley through the towns of Sierraville, Portola and Graeagle. You will see more cows on this ride than people!


Ride the South Shore, KSU @ 0915 — Approximately 140 miles

Surf’s Up! The south shore of Lake Tahoe has a lot of activities and riding through the pines to Emerald Bay is one of the best. This ride has some nice mountain vistas, technical mountain roads and incredible views of Lake Tahoe.


Monitor the Monitor, KSU @ 0930 — Approximately 160 miles

Monitor Pass is an incredible mountain ride that takes you through the quaint town of Markleeville, along the Carson River and then over Monitor Pass to Topaz Lake. This ride has some narrow mountain roads.


A Genoa History Tour, KSU @ 0930 — Approximately 100 miles

Take a backroads tour through rural Carson Valley to Genoa which was founded in 1851. This is an easy ride that provides awesome views of Jobe’s Peak, Jobe’s Sister and the Sierra Nevada Range.


Saturday

Ride the North Shore, KSU @ 0800 — Approximately 100 miles

The North Shore of Lake Tahoe that is! Lake Tahoe is just breathtaking and, on this ride, you will enjoy the view along King’s Beach, Carnelian Bay and more. This ride will take you up into the Sierra Nevada mountains and will require some technical riding skills.


Antelope Lake Loop, KSU @ 0815 — Approximately 175 miles

This ride takes you north to a pretty lake nestled in the mountains with some nice mountain twisty roads and rural scenery. This ride has some moderate mountain roads and rural backroads.


Sierra Valley Loop, KSU @ 0830 — Approximately 140 miles

This easy loop will take you around the pastoral Sierra Valley through the towns of Sierraville, Portola and Graeagle. You will see more cows on this ride than people!


Quincy and Bucks Lake, KSU @ 0845 — Approximately 200 miles

This ride takes you through the logging town of Quincy and then up to Bucks Lake. If you like the smell of pine, this ride is for you. There are some narrow, mountain twisty roads to ride to get to the lake.


Ride the South Shore,  KSU @ 0900 — Approximately 140 miles

Self-Guided Rides


Virginia City Tour — Approximately 50 miles

This ride will take you back in time as you tour the city that was built on silver mines. You can ride up Geiger Grade but just be careful to not have too much fun riding the curves. Keep your eyes open and watch for wild horses along Geiger. As you leave Virginia City, go down through Gold Hill and Silver City into Nevada’s capital, Carson City.


Washoe Valley and Carson City — Approximately 50 miles

Ride through the beautiful Washoe Valley at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains through the two-lane backroads to Carson City. On the way back, take the east side of Washoe Valley, around Washoe Lake and keep a look out for deer and wild horses.


USA Parkway Loop — Approximately 60 miles.

This ride will take you east on I-80 to where the big tech names are located such as Tesla, Switch, Zulily and a Walmart Distribution Center. Keep a lookout for wild horses just south of the industrial area. Take Hwy 50 west into Carson City or up Six Mile Canyon to Virginia City both of which have great places for a lunch stop.


Topaz Lake and Walker — Approximately 160 miles

Go South they said and you will see a lake that will surprise you as you crest a knoll. Fed by the West Walker River, Topaz Lake is a high desert gem and the ride to Walker takes you through the pretty Antelope Valley. Have a burger and milkshake at the iconic Walker Burger. This is an easy ride.
